Project Description
Rancho La Noria
ABOUT PROJECT
Located in one of the most beautiful communities in San Diego, this Rancho Santa Fe home is a testament to contemporary, custom design. This 12,244 SF, 4.2-acre property boasts 7 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, radiant heat limestone flooring throughout, a home theatre, game room, wine lounge, and an expansive backyard perfect for entertaining. Velvet Hammerschmidt Design was commissioned to turn both interior and exterior areas into sophisticated, warm environments in which the young family could relax between busy work schedules, enjoy vacation and playtime with their children, as well as comfortably host friends and family for long periods of time.
Custom-made furniture and lighting are seen throughout the house, including the Murano glass dining room chandelier, the office desk with integrated power, the handmade fireplace sculptures in the game room and wine lounge, and the live edge Texas Pecan wine lounge table. Additional custom designs include the six-foot diameter master bedroom chaise, the one-of-a-kind custom colored wallpaper in the purple guest room, and the hand-painted bird and tree fresco in the children’s media-play room.
In addition to custom designs, Velvet Hammerschmidt Design was called upon to provide a highly specialized vision for the house’s common areas. In the entry sitting room, the iconic Gerrit Reitveld lounge chairs and sofa, (by Cassina), seamlessly integrate the centrally placed Andy Warhol lithographs of endangered species and transform the area into a comfortable social and conversation space. Accessories seen in the office, family room, purple room, and children’s media-play room highlight the clients’ desires for a clean and modern aesthetic while keeping with animal-free product guidelines.
One of the most dramatic transformations happened on the exterior of the home. The existing cabana placed outside of the family room had black carpet tiles covering the limestone patio and blackout drapes, which blocked most of the natural light from the home’s interior. It was demolished, which made way for a contemporary, open, and airy outdoor environment. Velvet Hammerschmidt Design brought in Gandia Blasco furniture from Italy, an oversized area rug from Janus et Cie, and two heavy-duty umbrellas from Design Within Reach to complete the new lounge area. For the existing large cabana, Velvet improved the space by bringing in motorized awnings and Perennials drapery panels to provide flexible protection from the sun, which could also hold up to the strong winds that frequent the area.
This one-of-a-kind home in Rancho Santa Fe exceeded the client’s hopes by bringing visually stunning design schemes, skilled craftsmanship by artisans throughout the US and Europe, and the highest level of expertise executed by Velvet Hammerschmidt and her team.
